PSU Wattage Calculator
Estimate the power supply wattage your gaming PC needs from your GPU and CPU, with headroom for transient spikes.
Rough GPU board power
| GPU class | Board power |
|---|---|
| Entry (x50 class) | 75 – 130 W |
| Mid range (x60 class) | 130 – 200 W |
| Upper mid (x70 class) | 200 – 285 W |
| High end (x80 class) | 285 – 360 W |
| Flagship (x90 class) | 360 – 600 W |
Frequently asked questions
- Is a bigger PSU always better?
- Not always. A supply running near 50% load is close to its efficiency peak, but an oversized unit costs more for no performance gain. Aim for roughly 1.3× your sustained draw.
- Why do GPUs need extra headroom?
- Graphics cards pull microsecond spikes that can be nearly double their rated power. A supply sized only to the average can trip its protection and shut the PC off mid-game.
